4th Beaded Taxi Cab & New Website!

A couple of days ago, I completed the bead embroidery for my 4th beaded NYC taxi cab. I used a number of larger seed beads for this one, including Magatamas, and Czech crystal rounds. This car really sparkles in traffic! Finally, I think all the beaded components for my Radio City Music Hall painting are complete. Next, I need to stitch them altogether, and start working on a painted canvas! I still have quite a bit of work to do! :O

Also, I am thrilled to announce that I now have a new website! I feel very accomplished because I redesigned this site myself using iWeb. I think this one shares a  little more information about me, as well as more photos of my beadwork! I hope you’ll stop by and take a peek:  https://thelonebeader.com/

Larger Taxi, Larger Beads

Here’s a quick pic of the 4th beaded taxi cab I’ve been working on. This one is only slightly larger than the last, but it seems much larger! I am using larger beads, too! Magatamas, size 8’s, size 6’s, bugles, and some bigger black & gold Czech glass beads. (Currently, there are over 30 different types of seed beads out on my beading mat!) Because these large beads are heavier, I am stitching through them several times. This process takes a bit longer, but it ensures that the beads will be held in place properly. How do you think this taxi cab will look speeding down a beaded NYC street? 😀

Glimpse of a Beader’s Work Table

Today, UPS delivered my new digital camera! It’s a pink  Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W530 with 14.1 megapixels. I got it for free with my Sony Rewards points! I would actually like a much better camera – I’m slowly working my up to one, I guess. The camera I had been using for the past 4 years is another Sony Cyber-shot with only 7.2MP. I’m hoping my new one will help me take slightly better photos for my blog and Etsy shop. Here is the first photo I took:

Current state of my work table.. :O

As you can see, it’s my messy kitchen beading table! I’m currently working on my 4th beaded taxi cab which will be part of my Radio City Music Hall bead-painting. This one measures 17″ long by 5″ tall – just a bit bigger than the last. It is also made from 11 layers of felt – a lot to stitch through! I will take a close-up shot when I get a little more beadwork done…  😀

Also, just a quick reminder that tomorrow, Friday, May 20, 2011, is the opening reception for Cambridge Art Association’s Northeast Prize Show. This event takes place in both CAA galleries from 5:30pm – 7:30pm in Cambridge, MA – just over the bridge from Boston and a short walk from Harvard Square. If you plan to attend, look for my bead-painting at University Place Gallery! Please CLICK HERE for more details. Hope to see you there! 😀

Three Beaded NYC Taxi Cabs

Semi-beaded NYC taxi cab #3. Bead embroidery on felt. 14" x 4.5" (36cm x 11cm).

This week, I’ve been busy designing a few custom orders for my Etsy shop. I also   finished beading the 3rd speeding taxi cab for my Radio City Music Hall painting. (Well, it’s almost finished.. I can see where I forgot to add some red seed beads!) Aside from that, I tried to make it stand out a little more than the other two cabs. I used darker yellows, different metal hubcaps, twisted bugle beads, and Magatamas… What do you think? Is it starting to look like a New York City street scene? And, how many more beaded taxi cabs should I make? :O

Yellow Magatama Taxi Cab

Semi-beaded NYC taxi cab #3. Bead embroidery on felt. 14" x 4.5" (36cm x 11cm).

I’ve been busy the past couple of days. I spent mostly all of Tuesday redesigning my official website using iWeb. It’s almost complete, and I hope to have it up and running soon! I am also still working on my third beaded NYC taxi cab. Above, you can see that I have used several different yellow seed beads in size 11/o, as well as Miyuki Magatama seed beads. Magatamas are similar to a drop bead but they are more round than they are teardrop shaped. I think they will help to add a new texture to the larger taxi cabs in my beaded Radio City Music Hall scene! Next I must finish the windows as well as the sign on top of the car. Back to beading! 🙂

Semi-Beaded Taxi Cab #3

Finally some more progress on my beaded Radio City Music Hall painting. I started beading a 3rd yellow taxi cab. This one is slightly larger than the last. To make this car look a little different from the others, I used long black twisted bugle beads, red round faceted Czech glass beads, and a mix of pink & purple-ish seed beads on the tail end of the car. I have also begun to use some yellow Magatamas! Just wait ’til it’s finished! 😀

Two Beaded NYC Taxi Cabs

2nd beaded NYC taxi cab. Bead embroidery on felt. 13" x 4" (33cm x 10cm).

Today, just a quick post to show you the 2nd beaded taxi cab I’ve been beading. I worked on this during the past couple of days. I think it is mostly complete, although I still have a bit more work to do on the tires. I also noticed that there is more felt showing through on this car than there is on the previous car. I’m not sure I like that, so I may decide to stitch on some more seed beads here and there.. How do you think it looks in the big picture – next to my beaded Radio City Music Hall? 😀
