Celebrating an Etsy Sale!

Today, I am off to the post office to ship out my famous blue psychedelic beaded bus entitled The End! This piece has just sold at my Etsy shop!

To make sure it arrives safely on the West Coast, I am double boxing it and packing with a lot of bubble wrap. This was such a fun piece to work on and I will be sad to see it go, but I am happy it has found a new home. What kind of vehicle should I bead next? 😀

Mexican Beaded Bracelets

Last week, I had the opportunity to travel to a much warmer climate – I went to Mexico! This was my first time visiting the country and it is just beautiful. It is very much like the paradise I imagined!!

I stayed in Playa del Carmen just south of Cancun. Of course, I went to the beach and did a few touristy excursions (Tulum, Xel-Ha, and snorkeling in Cozumel), but I also did a little shopping on 5th Avenue. Anyone who has already been there knows this is not easy. Bargaining is the name of the game, and everyone is trying to sell you something whether you need it or not. I was shopping for local handmade goods. I found quite a few shops selling many beaded jewelry items! I asked permission to take this photo of some beaded bracelets I saw:

Women who live in the tiny villages of Mexico make this beaded jewelry to support themselves and their families. Any purchase you make helps support the local economy, and is greatly appreciated. So, of course I picked up a few bracelets to take home. Which one do you like best?

On your next visit to Mexico, stop and look at the beadwork. Perhaps you will find something special to take home, too:)

Beaded Hair & Eyeglass Frames

Today, I think I finally finished the beadwork for the portrait (of my friend, the optometrist)  I’ve been working on! I stitched silver bugle beads around my recycled eyeglass lenses to create frames. Then, I stitched gray, brown, and gold twisted bugle beads for hair. So far, it measures  9″ x 7.5″. I think its a pretty close rendition of my original sketch!  Now, the next step is to mount it to a canvas somehow… How do you think it looks? 8)

New Blog, New Beaded Dog!

It took nearly a week, but my new blog is finally up & running on WordPress! Thanks to those of you who followed me here from Blogger. I’m really excited to join the community here & I look forward to meeting new people! Next, I will be working on finishing the redesign of my official website. Big changes this year!

Semi-beaded Pomeranian  pin/pendant.
Bead embroidery on felt. 1.5″ x 1.5″ (3.5cm x 3.5cm).
Also, this week, I finished my beaded Pomeranian pin/pendant! This fluffy little dog was made using size 15 Japanese seed beads in several different whites. I layered beaded fringe on her face to add realism – it actually moves when you touch it! This piece is a brooch, but it makes a fabulous pendant, too! Those of you who follow my work on Facebook already know that this sold on the first day I listed it. So, I have re-listed this item in my Etsy shop as Made-to-Order. I plan to make more Poms in different colours! What kind of dog should I bead next? 😀
