Special thanks to everyone who attended the opening reception for Cambridge Art Association’s Northeast Prize Show last night! It was a nice evening, but it sure felt like the time passed quickly! I wanted to view more of the art, and take some photos of the show, but I ended up talking to people about my beadwork almost the entire night! I received a lot of questions about my inspiration, my beading techniques, and my artist name. (I hope to answer some of those questions on this blog in the near future!) Overall, the experience was very encouraging! If you happen to be in the Boston area in the next month or so, stop by University Place Gallery at 124 Mount Auburn St. to check out my beaded White House painting in person. It will be exhibited there through June 23. Thank you for your interest in my beadwork! 🙂

>Buzzing Beads

>

I had wanted to complete my beaded White House relief painting today for President Obama‘s birthday, but I still have a few more beads to stitch to the canvas. Here’s a sneek peak at what I’m beading:

I am stitching beaded honey bees directly to my painted oval canvas. These bees are made of 4 size 15 seed beads and 2 half bugles for wings. Bees are on the White House grounds because there are now 2 beehives there in real life! Honey bees will help to pollinate the flowers in Michelle’s new garden! I don’t know if I actually like my beaded bees, or if anyone looking at the painting will be able to figure out what they are, but Bo certainly knows what they are because the bees keep buzzing around his head! 😮

>Mounting Beadwork to Canvas

>

This weekend, I’ll be stitching my beaded White House & trees to its painted 36″ wide oval stretched canvas.

I have already begun this stage of the piece, and it’s not exactly easy mostly because of the size of the canvas. I work with the painting half on and half off of my kitchen worktable. I have already stitched the White House to the canvas, and one of my needles broke off inside the center section of the beadwork. I am trying not to break a second needle. I am also trying not to catch any thread on the beads, so I am working slowly stitching one tree leaf at a time.

You can see some of the stitches on the back of my canvas here:

I have already completed quite a bit, but I still have another tree and my little beaded dog to stitch into place! 😮 What will you be working on this weekend?

>Lazy Stitch Beading on Canvas

Ok, I will admit I’ve been lazy about blogging lately, but I haven’t been so lazy about beading, or have I??

Currently, I am lazy-stitching some Czech glass flowers to canvas for my beaded White House painting. I am using the green Wildfire that I got from Artbeads.com for this because of its strength. So far, this is working well, although my beading needle has seen better days… :/

The light green flowers (1st pic) have been in my bead stash for awhile, but the tiny blue flowers (2nd pic) are new! I got them at the Sewickley Bead Company while I was in Pittsburgh last week.

And, I finally finished beading my trees, where I added a tiny glass bird – a red robin!

Now, I must finish stitching all of my beadwork to the painted 36″ oval canvas..

After 15 weeks of working on this project, progress is finally being made in Washington! 😉
