All Beaded Patty on a Sesame Bead Bun

The past couple of weeks, I’ve been working on fun side project – a beaded cheeseburger! :p

This burger was created by stitching size 15/o & 11/o glass seed beads to a felt foundation. I also used bugle beads for the onion, and tiny micro bugle beads for the tomato & pickles! It measures approx. 14cm x 13cm. After all the beadwork was complete, I stitched Ultrasuede to the back as well as 2 Neodymium Rare Earth Magnets. Now its an oversized fridge magnet – the perfect gift for a friend! Perhaps I should make beaded spicy fries and a vanilla shake as well! :p

>Vertical Radio City

Over the weekend, I did some serious beading. I finally started working on the second Radio City Music Hall sign in my beaded painting. Using the same sparkling mix of yellow seed beads I used before, I beaded all of the large felt letters on the sign. This time, I used more transparent yellow seed beads than I did on the marquee in an effort to add a little visual depth to the beadwork.

This vertical sign is just one of four that will stand tall above the main theatre marquee, but in real life, there are only two vertical signs. I guess this is my artistic interpretation of the building’s design.. How do you think it will look when it’s complete? 😀

I think I am finally finished beading my felt Radio City Music Hall marquee! First, I layered some black size 15 seed beads over top of the small ‘Radio City’ words at the right of the marquee. Then, I filled in last felt section by stitching a mix of black & white bugle beads, gray hex cuts, and size 15 gray seed beads. In real life, this section states which band is playing at the venue that night. My beaded version is meant to give the illusion of words appearing there from a distance. How do you think it looks? I think it’s time for me to cut out some felt for the next part of my beaded NYC painting! 😀

Yesterday, I completed another section of my beaded Radio City Music Hall marquee. At the point where the marquee turns the corner, I switched from red hex cuts to translucent blue size 15 seed beads. It’s a pretty drastic change, but I think it makes the corner effect look more realistic in a sense. What do you think? Now, I have one more section of felt to bead, then I can move on to the next part of my bead-painting. 😀

Also, just a few quick notes. I did finish the blue beaded Venetian Angel Christmas ornament that I was working on earlier this week. You can see it in my Etsy shop. I have listed this item as Made-to-Order for anyone who is interested. I also listed my Time Traveler Trilogy for sale. This is my beaded DeLorean Time Machine triptych inspired by the 1985 film Back to the Future. You can view the listing HERE. Also, I am thrilled to announce that I have a few book giveaways planned for this month. Please stop by my next blog post for your chance to win a brand new copy of 500 Judaica: Innovative Contemporary Ritual Art. That’s the news for now! Enjoy the weekend! 😀

>Busy Black Beaded Lights

I have been super busy the past couple of days! I’m still working on filling in the background ‘lights’ on my Radio City Music Hall marquee. I have begun to add some black size 15’s in with the red hex cuts. As you can see, I’m embroidering in all different directions. I think this will help my bead-painting sparkle no matter which angle you view it from. How do you think it looks so far? 😀

>Lighting up a Felt Marquee

>

The past week was super busy for me! Believe it or not, I actually spent 4 long days working my regular job as a stagehand setting up the Radio City Christmas Spectacular here in Boston. All the while, I wished I was at my studio working on my beaded Radio City Music Hall painting

In the little free time I had, I did manage to stitch a few beads down to my felt marquee. I am working on filling in the red ‘lights’ behind the beaded Radio City words. I am using only size 15 glass seed beads and hex cuts for this. It’s not exactly easy to bead around the words written in cursive writing.. Sometimes, I can only stitch one bead at a time..

Even though only a small portion of the red is complete, I can tell this piece will be well lit – just like a real New York City street corner! 😀

Also, I have just announced a holiday sale on my Facebook page. Limited Time Only! Take 10% off every READY TO SHIP item in my Etsy shop from now thru December 31, 2010. Enter coupon code HOLIDAY10 at time of checkout. Thanks for your interest in my beadwork! 😀

>CAA New Members Show & Art Fair

>

Today, just a quick announcement to let you know that this year, I will be participating in Cambridge Art Association’s New Members Show! This is an un-juried show featuring works in all mediums! Most works will be available for sale including my beaded Yellow Submarine painting, The Hijack. 🙂

The infamous beaded Yellow Submarine hijack of 1968 is the most probable explanation for all of this anti-music… MEDIA: glass seed beads, acrylics. 24″ x 36″.

This exhibit will be installed at:

Hours: Tuesdays through Saturdays 11am to 5pm.

*The exhibit runs from July 2- July 28, 2010.

If you happen to be in the neighborhood, I hope you’ll stop by!

I will also be submitting a few small works for Cambridge Art Association’s annual summer Art Fair. The Art Fair takes place at University Place Gallery, 124 Mt. Auburn St., Cambridge, MA. This event features works in all mediums priced $200 or less. The Art Fair takes place during July & August. If you happen to be in Harvard Square on a regular basis, I highly recommend checking this out sooner rather than later – before your favourite artwork sells! That’s the news for now! 😀
