>Beading the White House

beaded White House Barack Obama Washington DC pop art beadwork bead embroidery blog
Semi- beaded White House painting. 17″ x 6″. Bead embroidery on felt. Work in progress.

I have been busy beading my felt White House for the past 2 days, and I have almost one third of the building complete. I am using 2 different shades of white size 11 seed beads. So far, I like how it looks but I will say that it is not easy to do bead embroidery on such a large area! Sometimes, I wonder if I am crazy for even attempting a project such as this! Then, I think about how I hope it will look when it is complete, and I just keep beading- at least until I need a break! Good thing it’s the weekend – time to work on an item for my Etsy shop! 😮

Also, before I forget, I want to point out a wicked cool motorcycle art & design blog I discovered yesterday. Check out The New Cafe(racer) Society. Scroll down a bit, and you’ll see that my beaded Buell was mentioned in it! I am honoured! *blush* 😀

  1. >It looks great and you are moving right along! I like this shot too at a bit of an angle to see the depth…it’s amazing! You should be proud…that is so cool that The New Cafe(racer) Society showed and mentioned your Buell! It deserves every mention and picture…it is so awesome!!! ~Lisa

  2. >I understand exactly what you mean about large pieces – my current project is 16″ x 16″ and it just seems to keep getting in it’s own way! It’s so rewarding, though, and your piece is coming along beautifully!

  3. >What an ambitious design! I can’t wait to see when it’s done. How are you going to make the transition from the flat part to the oval office?Joann

  4. >I’d imagine filling a big, open area with little bead detailing would be a challenge. It’s almost like pointilism (is that the word?)
