I just finished beading my Beatles Yellow Submarine, and cleaned up my seed beads at almost 2:30am! Ah well… what else is new… How about another art exhibit??😀

I have been given the opportunity to participate in Side Show Studios‘ upcoming textile art show- Taking Textiles Seriously. This show features local artists from Sacramento, CA and includes all kinds of textile art, including quilts, handmade clothing, costumes, and hats. I know my bead embroidery isn’t really textile art, but hey, there should be something that stands out from the crowd, right? I’ll be showing 3 of my original bead-paintings – Flamingo Moon, Great Blue Heron, and The Messenger. All pieces will be available for sale.

Side Show Studios is a custom tattoo studio & fine art gallery located at 5635 Freeport Blvd., Sacramento, CA 95822. Opening night is April 12, 2008 from 6-10pm, and the show runs through May 7, 2008. Take a peek at the following posters for more information. Mark your calendar and enjoy the show!😀

  1. >If I knew anyone who lived in that area I’d tell them to go see your stuff but they’ve all moved south. If you get in a show in the San Diego area I might even go. It’d be fun to have a reason besides family to get out there.

  2. >Thanks for the comments! And, Joanne, thanks for your insight regarding textile art! I definitely consider my more sculptural pieces (cars, and submarine) a type of textile art…. There is a lot of felt holding it altogether. And, 12 hours is a long way away! It seems that everything is a 12hrs away in Cali… However, it would be cool to see some pics of the show…Thanks for your interest! 😀

  3. >I’m glad you decided to enter the show. If I can, I’ll get down to see them. I’m about a 12 hour drive, but I have lots of friends down there I haven’t seen for a while. So if I can get away I will. I’ll definitely send pics if I go.I also beg to differ about beading not being a textile art. Beads are strung on thread, and it’s the thread (and in bead embroidery, fabric) that give the body to the piece. Without it, they would just be a pile of beads. So beading is a much a textile art as weaving or embroidery.Congrats on your new showing!

  5. >You have been beading until two thirty in the morning? This is what I would call endurance. Congratulations to your show in the “Side Show Studios” of Sacramento/California. I wish you some good sales.
