The Symbolism of the Colour Red

Heat= Fire extinguisher
Stop= Stop sign
Blood= American Red Cross
Danger= US Homeland Security Advisory System
Love = Valentine’s Day
Sex= Red Light District
Evil= Satan

Can you add to the list? And, what is the first thing you think of when you think of the colour red? I think of the famous fairy tale Little Red Riding Hood, which is a story we all remember from our childhood. But, the story we know was actually first entitled ‘Little Red Cap’ and was written by the Brothers Grimm in the mid-1800’s. The story has changed over the years, and it has been subject to numerous modern adaptations and readings. For example, ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ is also a song that was released in 1966 by Sam the Sham & the Pharaohs. Enjoy=:)

Today, I started working on the hood of my bead-embroidered 1943 Chevy fire truck. In the above photo, you can see all the different reds I’m using. I’m even using some dark red vintage glass seed beads. How do you think it looks so far??

  1. >Thanks for all of your comments! It is interesting what different colors remind us of. And, Claude, that was an interesting story. Thanks for sharing that! It’s certainly a small world…

  2. >i think of passion. flames, burning, leos, branding, burning, roses, f*ck me heels, italy, flamenco, a slap across the face that echos across the park. silence. damn girl you are talented. good grief. i’ve always wanted to learn how to embroider and needle working… im a wimp though.

  3. >There is evidently a worldwide ad campaign that associates the color red with the fight against AIDS. My daughter has a red i-pod, a percentage of the price of which Apple donates to AIDS research. She also carries a bag that has printed on it the word for “red” in a number of languages, and that is part of the same campaign.When I was in the Army, stationed at Fort Polk, Louisiana, there was a civil service worker named Mrs. Samudio who worked in the personnel office. Knowing that “Sam the Sham” Samudio was from Louisiana, I asked her if they were related. She was his aunt.I love your fire truck.

  5. >When I think of the color red, my first thought is power. There is a real glare from your overhead lights (perhaps) and that made it hard to be sure, but I’m liking what I’m seeing.
